Ultimate Kauai Helicopter TourThe island of Kauai is often called the “Garden Isle.” It is home to Mount Wai’ale’ale, one of the wettest spots on earth. Not only has the rainfall encouraged the growth of lush vegetation, it has eroded deep valleys into the mountain range, creating canyons and waterfalls. Among the waterfalls on this island is what has become known as the “Jurassic Waterfall” from its fame in the move Jurassic Park. In this tour, you will fly over the Napali Coast, Waimea Canyon, Mount Wai’ale’ale, and the Jurassic Waterfall. The Napali Coast is one of the most popular sites in Kauai. Jagged cliffs stretching up to four thousand feet hover over the beautiful seacoast. Waterfalls stream down the cliffs, which are home to hidden sea caves. The coast is inaccessible by automobile but a spectacular sight from the air. In the center of the island is Mount Wai’ale’ale, which means “overflowing water.” The mountaintop averages more than four hundred and sixty inches of rain per year. The rainfall has created the Alakai Wilderness area, a large bog that is home to many rare Hawaiian plants. Access to this area, even by foot, is extremely difficult due to the wet ground. On the west side of Kauai is the Waimea Canyon. The canyon is approximately ten miles long and more than three thousand feet deep. It was formed by the flooding Waimea River and the collapse of the volcano that created the island. This collapse formed a valley that then filled with lava, creating a fertile landscape dotted with weathered red rock. |
