Big Island Spectacular Eco STAR Helicopter TourThis is a rare opportunity to view the best of the Big Island of Hawaii. The island was formed thousands of years ago by five volcanic mountains. You will see the oldest, and now extinct Kohala. The mountainside is now home to lush vegetation interrupted only by the flow waterfalls descending the cliffs of the mountain. The Mauna Kea Volcano is now dormant as well. It is the highest point of the state of Hawaii, and its top is often covered in snow during the winter. Rainforests cover the mountain’s eastern slopes and farther down are many acres of sugar cane fields. The Hualalai Volcano is also dormant. It is home to the famous fields of Kona coffee. While the Mauna Kea is the highest peak on the Big Island, the Mauna Loa mountain is still known as the largest volcano in the world. It is an active volcano, last erupting in 1984. The most active volcano, however, is the Kilauea. It has been erupting since 1983 and has created magnificent black cliffs and beautiful black sand beaches. From the air, you will see steam rising from the cracks in the mountain as lava flows underneath down to the ocean. See the fields of lava named for Pele, believed to be the goddess of fire, lightning, and volcanoes. The Hamakua Coast features dramatic green cliffs that rise from the ocean. The coast has few sand beaches, but is dominated instead by streams and vegetation. Hawaii is home to spectacular waterfalls, including the beautiful Rainbow Falls and the Akaka Falls, the island’s tallest waterfall. You will also see remnants of Hawaii’s past as you fly over the remains of ancient villages and temples. |
